To aid the development of the girls movement I took screen grabs from thought of you to capture the girls movements. I paid particular attention to when she materialises, how she travels and how she disappears.
After my first animation test I wasn't too satisfied with the result so I researched other styles of animation for the girls movement. this animation form Ryan Woodward is perfect. The girls fluidity and elemental quality is exactly what I am looking for in her movement.
I found this very informative to see how the animation was created. I would like to animate on paper in a traditional way but it isn't a very cost effective way of animating especially as I can use photoshop very easily. It my be difficult to recreate the pencil line quality in photoshop that makes Duet so charming but it would be impractical to attempt making a 2D animation with paper and a light box. What I've also found interesting was the use of mix media. The team behind the animation placed the 2D animation in maya with a 3D camera as part of viewer interaction. This is of particular interest to me as my project will be very much mix media piece and will need to integrate 2D animation into a 3D space. Glen Keane's animation provides the perfect reference for the girls animation. First it has a beautiful hand drawn roughness about it. The line quality is strong and fluid but it flickers form frame to frame diving a beautiful sense of movement as well as a slightly rough quality as well. Also the way the characters, espaeiclly the girl change shape as the grow is also mesmerising and suites the qualities of my girl character. I want her to free forming and fluid as she moves and Keane's animation dies that while the girl moves through some very striking poses.
